I am even for the week and that is being generous, I think!!!
Stephanie, enjoy your run - It does feel nice out! You should teach! You would be great!
Tina, congrats on the win - hope you feel better!
Brenda, LOL your text was hilarious last night!
Kathi, glad you don't have a clot -that is great news!
The van had to have the side mirrors replaced and before that the seats - it has to go in sometimes for computer updates as well. It is good to go, though! And we just had the oil changed...
Hey LA... sounds like the weather is nice and cool there. Supposed to be 95 here today... ICK. Oh and after all the gym this week I am UP a 1/2 lb. DAMN IT
Steph... you should teach the class!
Brenda - I will be calling in about 30 minutes to go to the gym.
Back from the gym... did 20 minutes on the bike... 15 minutes on the eliptical... and then worked arms. No crunches... cuz an old guy was on the machine. Will do those on my floor this afternoon.
Now off to get the Hi-Def cable box, take Tia to get some golf shorts, go to Costco... then, the girls have a soccer game at 2.
Tina...last night was amazing...on that soccor field ...you were everywhere and that ball in the gut...you didn't even flinch...took my breath right away LOL...Have fun today!!
Leighann....I am up a pound :( damn choclate and corn dogs all week wasn't the best thing I could do LOL...glad to hear the van is new again :) Have fun with Dailen and Rayna's games!!!
Steph...teach the class!!!!!!!!! :D I'm sure you look good in anything you wear too :) Sounds like a really nice day back there too~
Kathi...since you can't do weight bearing exercises...you can still exercise :) Ready for us fellow bloggers to come up with a plan for you??!! LOL I think you need to sweat as much as the rest of us do LOL..and not just from the heat either :)
That's right, Kat. We will have you doing biceps curls with canned goods, and you need to get some of those stretchy bands, so you can lie on your back and do resistance exercises, and maintain your flexibility. There is still tons of stuff you can do that is non-weightbearing. Rest that foot! :)
Well, they booked my slot for instructor because they didn't hear from me by 7, so I will have to try next week! I went to the trails and ran about 6 miles, and just finished my heavy circuit for the day. What a way to start the week!
Oh yes, I did 6 circuits this week.
Brenda and Tina, great work on the workouts! That sounded tough!
Hey all! Crap... i stood in line for the stupid cable box for a freaking HOUR. Now - I have to go drop the girls at the field...run back here and water the plants in the back...then run BACK to the game... then come home, shower, go to costco and ZACHs game... sheesh.
Sounded like a great game...love those physical soccer games
Yeah, I do need some ideas for exercise after the surgery..I already plan on doing leg lifts with the left leg, so I don't lose muscle, since I won't be able to put any weight on it; the arms thing sounds great to build up muscle to push the wheelchair (I know that that in itself is gonna build muscle); got anymore? :D
Oh gosh, there are tons of little exercises you can do postop, Kathi, and I am sure Physical Therapy will go over them with you.
I saw a few on the American Academy of Orthopedics web site that I loved...like:
1. Of course, you can do crunches for your core. Don't put your hands behind your head, though. Just keep them to your side, look at the ceiling, and lift your upper body and do "pulses". 1-2-3-4...2-2-3-4, etc.
2. Buttock contractions. Lie on your back and squeeze your bottom, and hold for a count of 10, then release. Do 10 times in a 10-minute period.
3. Straight leg raises. I think these are self-explanatory.
4. Quadriceps sets. Lie on your back and straighten your knee. Squeeze the muscles in your thigh, hard as you can, and hold that for 5-10 seconds then release. Do 10 times during a 10-minute period.
You can also flip over and do the leg lifts on your tummy, to work the back of your legs; just don't overextend.
I know the lower body exercises are going to be important for you, to keep those clots away. Definitely get these approved by your doctor first!
Yes, my husband and I were discussing that Clausen boy...on the Notre Dame side. We don't think we like him, even if he is good. It was a great game to watch!
Oh, and my husband tells me I am a dork. I was talking about the San Diego State game yesterday, and Leigh Ann was talking about San Diego...What can I say? I am a football dork.
Morning Ladies! Getting ready to go to the girls game. Have to drive to valley center. ICK. for those NON sandiegans... its 30 minutes north and HOT AS HELL there. We should be home in time to watch the Chargers play.
LA - be safe on your trip to PCola... know that Im thinking of you and sending you all the good vibes I can possibly muster!! It will be a safe and calm trip... I love you!!
Brenda, not sure if I will go to gym today after game... forgot the Chargers were on!! So, lets play it by ear... ok?
Steph... you are not a dork... you just arent a Chargers fan... :o)
Tina... brave it up in the heat UGH! Will play the gym by ear
Kathi...Steph has given you some great ideas...write it down and start in...talk to the doc first but I think you should begin doing them now...it would only be a major bonus to go into surgery feeling strong and will help you recover...email/call the doc tomorrow and lets go!!! We're here for you and we'll push you through it (kicking and screaming won't work LOL) Love and hugs!!!
Leighann....prayers are with you!! Be strong my friend...we love you!!
Steph...you're a major motivator :0 and funny!!!!!!!!
WOOHOO!!! Chargers!! :D Good way to start the season...Very cool Leighann your family wore their shirts...
Tina....hope today went well...I'm off to see Big Broher at Mary's house at 6:50 so I'm sorry if I can't get to the gym...I did get bunches done here at the house, so I feel good about that
Leighann....hoping you are well wherever you are!!!
Yeah, you're right, Bren; I probably should start 'em now; IT IS good to go into surgery strong...it'll do nothin but benefit me; I'm also well on my way to stop smoking...absolutely need healthy lungs (I came out of one of my shoulder surgeries with pneumonia--I wasn't 100% better from a cold I had had)
LeighAnn... hoping all is well... please do check in and let us know you are fine
Brenda - will you have time for the gym today? Sorry about yesterday but between soccer, football and the womens final tennis US Open... there was simply no time. Let me know if it looks okay today.
Hey Tina!! How was the soccor game yesterday?? Yes, that tennis game interferred with my big Brother!!!!!! LOL...Well, I ended up watching the tennis with Mary and her mom...then went home to watch Big Brother LOL...I'm not going to be able to go to the gym today...chores before bible study...then tomorrow is out since I have bunches to do before we leave Weds :( I'm going to walk though at work on morning and lunch breaks :)
We lost yesterday 3 to 6. We had NO subs - the girls had to play full game AND rotate thru goal because our goalie had a softball game that apparently was more important than her soccer committment.
No worries about the gym... I will coerce Fred into going with me. LOL.
Yes they did get quite a work out... did i mention... it was 99 degrees in Valley Center yesterday??? I was afraid the poor things would have heat stroke. Good thing they are tougher than their mom. haha.
I posted some AWESOME pictures of my office building versus the one that didn't make it next to us... it's incredible how close they are to each other... and the damages that one sustained!
Marci and Tina...went to your blogs :) thanks for sharing!!
Marci...so glad all is well...your workload...oh my!!!!
Tina...so sorry your tummy is not well :(
Kathi...hope you get news soon...spaghetti!! Mmmmmm
I got back from bible study and did most of the packing...tomorrow...I wash my jacket (yes, it got chilly back in Minnesota) and wash my tennies ...have dana give me a pedi, straighten my...short hair..yep got it cut, didn't ask for it to be this short...I told her it pops up short with the curlies...everyone says it's cute...but Hmmmmm then I have to do things around the house before we go Weds...I'll work til 10 on Weds
Dang it, Brenda! Why do stylists even ask you what you want, if they are just going to shave you bald anyway? I hate that! You say, please just a little trim, and off come the 3 inches is just took you a year to grow. I think they just do what they want, and then charge you for it. I swear, I wish I were brave enough to refuse to pay...I am sure it's cute, but you shouldn't have to "come to like" a style that was forced upon you.
Hope everyone has a great Tuesd. leaving work early to take girls to doc for their last gardisil shot. Want her to look at Tia's knee too... just hasnt got better since her fall a month or so ago.
Yes Steph...I agree about the salon...I did say to the shoulder and when it's dry it curls up...she said...I know that, I can see your hair type....well huh...if she knew that ,then...LOL you're right, I shouldn't have paid LOL :)
Leigh Ann asked me to let everyone know she is okay. On Sunday, when she was on her way back to Pensacola, she had another spell and had to stop about an hour from the house, and visited a local ER. Paul was with the kids in Chattanooga so John and I went down to pick her up from the ER and bring her back to Smyrna. Sunday she just rested and today, Paul is driving, and she is following behind. He is escorting her down so she can get back to work. She is doing better today, I think, and she just wanted me to let everyone know she is okay.
God Bless you and John for doing that, Steph; I don't mean to make an executive decision for the blog, but I think we should all make it a point to call her once a week now; I mean, talking on here is fine, but it's not the same as hearing a voice..I'll start it and call later today to make sure she's ok and made it down ok; what do you all think?
I don't know, Kathi. It is sweet that you are thinking of her, and we all are concerned, but I think she might need to just rest and take care of things at work, so I doubt anyone would even get her on the phone. I think when she is ready to talk, she will come back on the blog. Just my thoughts...
It was no big deal for us to drive down and get her. I didn't even take time to contemplate...It was perfect timing, actually...we were just coming off of the trails and had just gotten back to the truck when Paul called, so we were able to hop right down there. I regret that I had to go stinky, straight after a run, but extreme circumstances call for extreme actions! :)
So don't call yet? I don't know, it was just an idea... :( Is her spells just still coming from having a hard time leaving each week, or is something else going on?
Hey Kathi :) Thank you...I'll check in at work in the AM...I work til 10...How all is well for everyone!! It's been sooooo quiet on our weightloss blog ...Kathi...hope you started doing some things at home :) It starts with you!!! I'm rooting for you!!
I know it does; and no, I haven't started anything yet...but will tomorrow (even though my foot is really hurting, I'm gonna fight through it and start walking VERY SHORT distances); wow, you'll get to MN late then, right? What time's your flight? Are the girls going with you?
Kathi, I would not walk; stay off of your foot. There is too much you can do otherwise, as I showed you. That was just stratching the surface. I think you need non-weightbearing exercises. Just a suggestion...
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, everyone...I just went to ivillage.com and joined their communtiy of support for dealing with my dad (something that my mom said hit me like a ton of bricks last night and I'm struggling now with how to get her the help/therapy she may need); so I'm gonna call in the morning and get suggestions from the Alz. Association on how to help her; and making her find the time to get help (although she says she doesn't need it, I don't believe that for a second)
WTG!!!! Kathi :) right on...great start...stay strong and focused...getting support from those going through that will help YOU :) Also, you need to find a support group from those going through med issues like yourself or maybe facing/recovering from foot surgery ...and also start doing those exercises...you can do them on the bed...chair...floor...did you write them down??? I think Steph had the most excellent ideas for you :D Come on Kathi....our board here is about support, making changes..blah blah blah LOL gosh I'm making myself sick here LMAO
Our flight is at 2:55...we have a layover in Denver then arrive in Minnesota at 10:35 pm...a cousin and his wife are picking us up in Minneapolis and taking us to his parent's house...where we will stay...in Stillwater...no girls going..don't want them to miss school...my parent's flight out tomorrow and will stay where we are...it's my mom's youngest brother and his wife
LMS...you are hysterical, Bren. Is the reunion this weekend? HEY; got some great news (for a change...lol); two weeks from tomorrow is the 16th anniversary of being cancer free....WOOOOO HOOOO; maybe we can go to Callahan's and celebrate (?)
WOOHOO!!! That is great news Kathi :) we must plan something when I get back..my dad's side of the family reunion is this Sat (for their's we golf and play softball) and Sun is mom's side ..we will picnic at my aunt and uncle's where we are staying
Five years ago, when we were in Chi-town for ours, we had it at my cousin's house and there was probably 50 people there (ALL FAMILY); we had a BLAST; we did the egg toss, volleyball, LCR..and THE NOISE THAT WAS COMING FROM THAT YARD...lot of Irish hot air..lol; that was probably the one and only time we'll all get to go...lot of illness in the family now :(
I just called surgery scheduling to get on a cancelation list; so surgery can really happen anywhere from now until the time I had said before (end of Oct); FOOT IS KILLING ME, so the sooner the better
OMG Marci - you made me pee a little!!! I was so confused about "those claims" and then when I saw the next post I LOL so loud my admin got up and shut my office door!! hahaha
OH, I'm starting to think this blog is not such a good thing to do while at work, girls...but eh, who cares; if it makes ya pee, then it obviously makes you laugh, which in turn makes for a fun day, even when you're having the most shittiest of days; I don't even work, so I have no room to talk..so ya'll have my permission to stomp on me....lol; all I do is hang out here at home, BORED TO TEARS and it makes me LOL (you should see the looks I get sometimes from my neighbors when I do that)
I'm drinking a beer at my desk right now! LOL you talk about we get LOUD here....
My brain is fried at this point with all the paperwork and FINALLY we have electricity full power at the office... no generators.... full a/c, full computers.... YEAH!
YOU GO, MISS TINA!! And, you are most certainly welcome to celebrate with me and Bren when she gets back; damn it, we'll have a beer, or two, or three.... and we're celebrating my 16 years of being cancer free in two weeks from tomorrow
On a MUCH MORE serious note, please don't forget to say a silent prayer for the people that lost their lives seven years ago tomorrow :(; WE WILL NOT FORGET AND GOD BLESS THE USA
I went to the gym... AND did 40 minutes on the eliptical and then arms. Wanted to do legs... but all the machines were used and fred was NOT in the mood to hang around.
Am now grilling chops for dinner, then shower and watch some tv.
No... havent heard from Brenda - yes she was flying... I will call her tomorrow and see how the trip flight went and tell her we all want her to have fun.
Kathi, all we can do is think about Leigh Ann and say some prayers... we don't want to intrude in her "space" right now... she will let us know when she is ready ok. remember, more or less we have all been there lately,... i know I had my break... I got to breath and if she is like me... she's reading our comments, she just can't focus right now to join in.. give her time....
she knows we love her and we care about her..... and we are here for her.... :*)
OK, I'm having a little crisis of my own right now (crying to the point where stuff is coming out of my nose) ..... having such A HARD TIME deciding what to do about this DAMN SURGERY!!!!!!! I want to have it, cuz like ya'll said, I've been in pain longer than the rehab's gonna take; but than again, I don't want to have it now because I know what's gonna be involved in the care afterwards and I DO NOT want to be a burden to anyone in my family, ESPECIALLY my mom because she's dealing with enough shit with my dad ... GOSH DAMN IT, I don't know what to do!!!
Kathi, indecisiveness can be expensive, and deadly. There is no sense agonizing about it. You already know this is something you are going to have to do. All you can do is try to plan as best you can for a good support team afterward. You will be having home health follow-up postop, right? Hopefully they can shoulder most of the load, and mom can just check in on you from time to time....
Kathi, Steph is very knowledgeable in the medical field... and like she said, you did all the research, you know you have to do it.... so stay positive...
Tina, yes, if you can check in on Brenda, let us know.....
I THINK I'll have home health afterwards, Steph; at least if I can't get anyone else to come in when Gina can't come (she's going to school); I don't understand...how can an orthopedic problem be deadly? Yeah, my ad on Craigslist expired yesterday, so I'm about to put in another one, and will continue to do so until someone responds... and I still have to work on getting a ramp installed..the wheelchair and bedside commode I have to wait on, because the doctor has to write a perscription for those and DME has to either deliver it to the hospital or my house..
It was just a figure of speech, Kathi, though even just an orthopedic problem can certainly have serious effects on your overall health and well being, if it's not "deadly". It is making you more sedentary, which is definitely not a good thing for anyone...

Hey Tina~ Congrats on the girl's win!! Ohhh physical game?? Sounds scary!! By now you're enjoying a relaxing evening with Fred :)
Sounded like a great game...love those physical soccer games

OMG...that's awful!! I bet everyone was wilted by the time you got home :(
It sucked the very life outta them... and considering they went into the 1/2 up by 3 points... it was a sad sad day. LOL

And Good Morning all
Thanks Steph for the update ...gosh..glad you and John were close enough to handle it...will continue to say my prayers!!
Yes Kathi...I agree...calls are great...I think we all are doing just that already :) Will continue, for sure~
I am glad I didn't see anyone I know. :)
I agree Steph... I think each of us knows our relationship with LA and should do what we think works for that. :D
She knows we love her...
Well said Ladies :)
Gosh, if I'm not well....I'm glad to know all of you :)
So don't call yet? I don't know, it was just an idea... :( Is her spells just still coming from having a hard time leaving each week, or is something else going on?
Kathi...maybe for now, just let time and patience be the guide :)
Wow... quiet here... we must all be VERY busy at work... I know I am.
Hey Tina!! Busy and looking at the clock to leave LOL...
No, just waiting to hear from/about Leigh Ann
Have a great trip, Brenda
I think I made up a new word...stratching. Hmmm...if the doctors can do it, why can't I? :)
LMS (laughing myself silly); hey, why not!? HEY; another new one...LMS; yes, I'm a bit giddy, being up at 2 in the morning
Brenda! Have a fantastic trip!
Kathi, good for you I am proud :)
Steph, thanks for being there for LeighAnn, and for us, you are a great friend.
Tina, hey girlie, congrats on all those claims.
Leigh Ann, thinking of you, praying for some strength....
:) love you lots...
I am losing it....
congrats on all those GAMES!!!!!!!
OK, I wet my pants....
yes, I'm a little stressed.....
Five years ago, when we were in Chi-town for ours, we had it at my cousin's house and there was probably 50 people there (ALL FAMILY); we had a BLAST; we did the egg toss, volleyball, LCR..and THE NOISE THAT WAS COMING FROM THAT YARD...lot of Irish hot air..lol; that was probably the one and only time we'll all get to go...lot of illness in the family now :(
Yes, Kathi those sounded like great times :) It is sad when the good times get spaced out due to illness etc....
Marci...the "claims" to Tina had me wondering Huh...what did I miss LOL...then I saw your followup LOL
thanks for the well wishes!!
BYE BRENDA!!! (throwing "have a great trip" confetti)
the "claims" thing was cute;
I just called surgery scheduling to get on a cancelation list; so surgery can really happen anywhere from now until the time I had said before (end of Oct); FOOT IS KILLING ME, so the sooner the better
Morning ladies...
LOL
you talk about we get LOUD here....
My brain is fried at this point with all the paperwork and FINALLY
we have electricity full power at the office... no generators....
full a/c, full computers.... YEAH!
If that's not reason enough to have a beer at your desk, I don't know what is...rock on, Marci! Process that paperwork!
...i wanna beer...
I havent been to the gym all week... so I dont get to HAVE a beer. *pout*
I WILL go tonight... I dont care how crappy i feel!!
GOD, I want to call Leigh Ann.......AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH
I went to the gym... AND did 40 minutes on the eliptical and then arms. Wanted to do legs... but all the machines were used and fred was NOT in the mood to hang around.
Am now grilling chops for dinner, then shower and watch some tv.
THATS my exciting evening. LOL
Night Ladies!
Tina, you are such a trooper!
you go girl....
I wish you would come and grill some chops!
Was Brenda flying? did you hear from her..??????
fixing to hit the hay with my honey... going to snuggle...
:O)
No... havent heard from Brenda - yes she was flying... I will call her tomorrow and see how the trip flight went and tell her we all want her to have fun.
Have fun "snugglin"... :o)
Kathi,
all we can do is think about Leigh Ann and say some prayers...
we don't want to intrude in her "space" right now... she will let us know when she is ready ok.
remember, more or less we have all been there lately,... i know I had my break... I got to breath and if she is like me... she's reading our comments, she just can't focus right now to join in.. give her time....
she knows we love her and we care about her..... and we are here for her.... :*)
I didn't call her cuz I knew that she needed some time, but MAN, do I miss her; I really hope she's doing ok
Bren should be landing within the hour, provided everything went smoothly
I'm off too; have a good night
Morning ladies!
Hope everyone has a great thursday. Mine will be very very busy.
I hope Brenda is enjoying her vacation! I plan to try and check in with her later to see how her flight went...
Good morning!
WOW, full power at work!
No, it's not; and I can see that I'm gaining weight, so it's REALLY not good. Ok, off to Craigslist...
