OK...I watch the Alaska Experiment...watched one episode so far...the show just started (I record it) the folks on this show have lost LOTS of weight and I need to know what they are eating...I know protein is very little because they were out catching their own food...I'm wondering if the cold weather and hard work is what is making them lose the weight...I know I shouldn't follow that kind of weight loss BUT...I am curious :) I can go to Jack in the box and ask if I can jog in their walk in freezer :)
Don't laugh, but they are probably eating fish and whale blubber. I actually saw that on a show once. That is why the Eskimo people have virtually no overweight...it is literally an all-protein diet. I can't believe their hearts are okay with all that fat. I guess the lean fish balances it out? 8-)
Leigh Ann, I am terrified of doing that (with the e-mail). I check and double check my recipients before I send. Scary!
The espisode I saw Steph...was the first one...a month into their getting to Alaska and the hadn't yet had their protein sources saved up for the upcoming winter...they talked about the lack of protein in their first month...so, since they haven't had their fill on it...what are they eating?? The show has them weigh in and take blood tests so they can monitor their health...it's not a competition or anything...just to see if regular folk can survive in extreme conditions without much help...It's really a cool show and a real mix of folks...I think there are 4 sets of people placed at different locatons and different extremes...thus far, they've been canning salmon...and one guy shot a mountain goat (he's the only one with a gun, due to his food availablity)...no blubber yet LOL...EWWWWWWWWWWWW
Sounds like a good show, Brenda, definitely. That is interesting, what are they eating until they secure their protein source? I guess they are literally spending all of their time keeping from the elements, and finding food. Keep us posted on what happens!

OH, LEIGH ANN...that was a good one; but YUCKO!! Fish and whale blubber...yeah, you're right Steph; that'll curb anyone's appetite...EEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW; still coughing up my lungs; but so far so good on no fever or anything else, and it's the second day w/o antibiotics..so we'll see how it continues to go :D

I had a productive day today; I did the other half of my laundry at my parents house and pulled their weeds (i'm paying for it with an asthma attack now..but doing a treatment, so I'm good); my mom paid for me to get a haircut - and boy, IS IT SHORT!!!; then, with it being Cinco De Mayo, we had Mexican for dinner and now I'm home..tomorrow's a relax day and then starts my two straight weeks (not consecutive) of appointments on Wednesday

Oh yea...well...haven't put a lot of thought into that...LOL.
The kids are excited and we are going to try and make some space for them this week.
Tori is really homesick - it cracks me up, she does good until about two weeks out and then she turns into a basket case! It will be a lot easier when we are all based out of the TN house...she has been up in the air for so long and basically homeless, bless her heart.
She is staying with a couple of friends in their apartment...she is just out of sorts and wants to come home.
I feel bad because I made her wait a week and half before flying out with her friends...
But, I had to have this week to finish school up!

Ahhh...it really does suck and it is really sad!
California ladies, I remember standing on Leigh Ann's deck 2 years ago, the last night they were here, and her saying, "this sucks!" We were all sad here too. I know how you girls feel. I grew attached to her just a bit while she was here. Leigh Ann, it's nice to know lots of people love you, huh?

Just sometimes I don't know what teenagers are thinking... and how it affects so many people around them... I mean we did some shit, but nothing like these kids are doing now a days...
and yes, we are the first ones to continually bail them out... I can honestly say, KK will have a hard road... and I will see to it, that she walks it every day.. so as not to think we are handling everything... and she has stepped up to the plate....
yes, the poor parents... and it probably is a good kid that just got a little stupid quick...

I heard one time, I haven't the foggiest idea where, that a teenager's brain doesn't fully develop until their 20s, so it kind of goes to show you how immature they are in their decisions that they make...I AM IN NO WAY CONDONING WHAT HAPPENED, but it's somewhat understandable..and I know that kid knows right from wrong, he has to..he's 12!!! Kind of makes me wonder though what kind of parenting he gets; if me or my siblings pulled that shit..OMG; there would be hell to pay

Oh, and doctor went well today. He doesn't have anymore ideas about my cough..just have to wait to see the Pulmonologist Friday to see what the next step is; my blood sugars are normalizing now that I'm tapering off the prednisone, but I did get a diabetic handout to follow should I have to go back on it in the future; I don't have diabetes, but facing the reality of having to follow that kind of diet because of, what my doctor calls, an "insulin resistance" due to the pred.
Geez...it gets tougher and tougher to stay healthy, doesn't it?

Oh, I am just reading what happened at Rayna's school today. That is terrible! Sounds like he needs a psych eval...I am sure he didn't think about endangering other peoples' lives...I will make certain to use this as an example to my 11-year-old boy as to the consequences of bad decisions. Jonathan is a good boy, but I am terrified about the next 5-10 years with teenage boy stuff...I am reading up on how to handle things intellectually, rather than physically, like my parents did. :)
I hope that boy gets back on track, and I am glad no one was hurt.
Yeah Steph, wow; you'll be hitting the teenage years SOON. My poor brother and sil; their second daughter is just now coming into the throws of it (she'll be 12 next month); don't get me wrong..my nieces are great, Christian young women (OH, that hurt to say that..lol) and there's no way they would ever do that, but... I think peer pressure can get even the best Christian
There is no way in HELL that my parents would EVER survive if they had four teenagers now, as they did 25 years ago; why can't we just go back to that simpler time? It was so easy when we were growing up (compared to what it is now, I mean)

Marci, yes, my legs are good as new, thanks for asking! I ran 6 miles yesterday, and it felt great.
John wants me to start thinking toward next year's race. Now that I'm a veteran and know what to expect, hopefully I can manipulate my time. But, this far out, I think I am only going to do long runs a few times a month just to maintain condition...Sorry to blah blah! That may be more information than you wanted...I am not used to people asking me about my runs! :)

We were sitting in class last night and Jessica (who is about 24 years old, works two jobs and is from Arkansas - INCREDIBLE PERSON) starts gabb'n about going home and what she is having for lunch Friday, yes tomorrow - CRAWFISH BOIL! I was like that is so messed up...everyone else was looking at us like we were nuts. LOL
Two more presentations tonight...edit research paper and write another paper and I am done...I know ya'll must be sick of hearing about school, I know I am.

Crawfish...I never had any either, Brenda. I am historically not good with shellfish. For my 18th birthday my boyfriend bought me lobster at a nice restaurant in Nashville. They brought it out on a platter, whole, looking at me...I couldn't do it! LOL :)
Leigh Ann, let me know what your research turns up for a boil here in TN once you get back. Maybe you could help me with the face thing! How do you eat 'em? I think I would be fine, long as it's not lookin at me!

Hey Kathi, I had went to bed when you posted...
Mike is a supervisor at used to be Welch Generators.. but was just bought out by National Oilwell Varco... They work on and rent the portable generators that when power goes out they can power back up from the generators... they are HUGE... the size of an 18 wheeler trailer.. runs, hospitals, malls, schools, plants... etc...
(IE started as mechanic, and moved up in less than 5 years... which is awesome)

I am trying to get them both finished prior to Tori getting here with her friends on Tuesday.
So, today, I am going to see how much I can knock out.
My ankle is ok...it's funny after I wear heels for a while it swells up ugly:(
But, I have been able to work out and all, so I am thankful.

Yea, the weather is depressing today.
*sigh* LOOOONG Friday. Now to do a load of laundry and get ready for soccer at 8 tonight. Fred has to work so he isnt playing tonight.

Well, I have to walk away from my research paper - I have put in over six hours on it today alone...it's like being pregnant for a year - thats how long I have been working on it almost - and still no baby.
LOL...I am heading to the gym.
Tonight we are packing...my house will never be the same, I hope my nerves will be able to take the chaos of it all.

I have made a lot of progress on it...I am on page 26 of 30 - editing what she gave back to me. So, this is the FINAL draft that I am working on! YAH!!!
I could heat a small village with all of the "drafts" I have of this damn paper!
...did I mention that this is the last freak'n time I will exert any energy on this paper?

Hello all...got back from the hospital...from mom's MRI...she should hear the results by the end of next week...

Thank you all for keeping my mom in your thoughts/prayers :) It's a scary time in our family!!! We'll be lunching with her tomorrow and spending the afternoon with them...THEN I go to my first IKEBANA floral arranging class :D it's a traditional japanese floral arranging...there are more modern teachers but Janet learned the traditional and she is starting class'

LA, before you leave, CHECK YOUR TIRES!! Just saw a thing on 20/20 on how you can check to see just how old they are..yes, I know the van is new, but the tires might not be; you have to check the whole DOT label (at the very end) and there's a "code" to go by (IE...let's say the numbers are 4501; this means that the tires were manufactured in the 45th week of 2001...the tires are seven years old - not good for the road trip you're going to take) ... this goes for all my blog "sisters"...check those tires, ladies - could mean yours and your family's lives
I'm definitely going to check the tires on the rental before we leave for Vegas

Typing VIP reminded me of my senior year in high school. My best friend (all the way from 3rd grade) was a mere 5 feet, 1 inch at 17 years old, and because of her stature, as a gag gift, I bought her a coffee mug that said, VIP (very important peon). She loved it.

Got my Mother's Day gifts from my babies, a few days early! They are taking me to brunch, but I also got...a bouquet of daisies, which are my fav! And Jonathan made me a little clip from a paint stick which he painted himself at school for my fridge (I cherish the hand-made stuff most, of course!) I also got a new mug and a bag of my favorite coffee from Starbucks from him, and T-shirts and a gorgeous pair of Amethyst earrings from Ansley. My girlie!! She is so sweet. She brought me a bottle of pink nail polish yesterday and said, "Mama, pink toes!" That was her way of asking me to paint her toes.

Oh, yuck, the packing...the not so fun part. I hope all of your stuff makes it home whole! :) We always lose something when we move, to breakage, or just disappearing!
I HATE moving; it's true what they say about not knowing how much crap you have until you pack/move.. I guess that's why I've been living where I am for six years; don't want to move again...lol (that, and not being able to AFFORD IT).
